Supply and install of attic insulation

The products we use meet all CAN/ ULC requirements and are government certified for your home. Our installers have years of experience and all their current certifications. We always strive to go the extra mile by weather stripping the attic hatch and investigating as we go so we can find even the hidden issues and we don’t just bury them.

Removal of attic insulation

Our attic insulation removal equipment can remove the insulation from your attic, fully contained, with no mess. Sometimes attics can have some pretty major issues. Wood chips that are extremely flammable or Vermiculite can have the possibility of asbestos. Some attics have ventilation issues that have created problems with moisture, mould and rot. Sometimes, a vapour barrier is not working properly and allows too much moisture from the house to build up in the attic. All these problems can lead to attic insulation removal, so we can have a clean slate to resolve the issues and then re-insulate with new materials.

Supply and install of attic ventilation systems

High-performance spray systems have been designing and installing attic ventilation systems in Calgary homes for many years. Good airflow and attic ventilation are critical to keeping an attic dry. Good ventilation is also critical to the life span of the shingles on your roof. Calgary attics are very susceptible to moisture issues because of chinooks. As warm moist air finds its way from the house into the attic, it condenses into water on the roof sheathing underside. An attic with good ventilation will allow this moisture to dry out and not accumulate. However, an attic with poor ventilation will allow this moisture to build up over time. Throughout the winter, when the chinooks come, and things warm up, attics with this issue will start to “rain” and cause damage to your home.

What you need to know about YOUR home’s Attic Insulation

Your attic insulation in Calgary is the single most important part of the insulation system in your house. Upgrading the attic insulation in your home attic is the easiest way for you to increase energy savings for your home and the comfort of your home in summer and winter.

Attic insulation settles over time, and this will reduce the R-value in your attic. Typically, an attic should get a top-up of insulation every 10 to 15 years.

How long has it been since you checked on your attic?

How do you know if your attic needs professional attention?

Here are some things you can look for to see if your attic might need some professional attention from the High Performance Attic Insulation team.

What kind of insulation do you have?

There are a few different types of insulation you might find when you look at your attic insulation. Wood chips, Cellulose, a dark-coloured dense material, Vermiculite, a product that looks like kitty litter and should be left undisturbed. It might have asbestos and Fiberglass light, fluffy and several different colours, usually yellow, white or pink. Cellulose and fibreglass are great products for insulating an attic. Wood chips and vermiculite are not and should be removed.

What is the depth of your attic insulation?

Typically for every inch of attic insulation, the R-value equals R2.7. If you have less than 13 inches of material in your attic, it is time to consider topping your attic backup to an R50 depth by adding more insulation materials.

Notice moisture? Time To Get Attic Insulation in Calgary

Look on top of the insulation to see if there is any water evidence or if there has been water in the past and is now dried up. Look at the underside of the roof. Is there water staining on the wood? Are the nails from the shingles rusty? If you do find evidence of moisture in the attic space, this could be an indication of poor ventilation or a compromised vapour barrier and should be addressed by a professional ASAP.
